so we are unfortunately off to a slow start this morning having multiple problems with multiple bikes. low air pressure, dead batteries various and sundry things that need tending to. it is hard to maintain the bikes here in Argentina as they cannot get parts. things like tires, cost, $1,000. it is just third world land. it's quite interesting.

The rest of the crew is up and around this morning. we're getting the bikes ready. tending to all the last minute fixes and chores. it's going to be a long day ahead.
hiking through the product de los graciares this afternoon was really cool. we got to see great views of the glacier from up on high and also get down fairly close to it from across the narrow straight of the lake. it was amazing to watch the huge pieces of ice cave off and fall into the lake with thunders booms and roaring splashes and big waves washing across the lake. it got hot when the sun came out as we were dressed for cooler weather and the walking was much longer than I expected. it felt good to get back on the bike and be moving again even though it was a relatively short ride back to the hotel.

seven of us took taxis into town for dinner this evening. it didn't not go as well as expected. we had made a reservation at a nice restaurant but when we got there it turned out the reservation had not actually been fulfilled. The hotel made an error. so, we walked into town and found a pizza place that did the job quite well. afterwards, we walked through the town which was much larger than I ever expected. The population is about 30,000, but the town was packed full with people celebrating an annual holiday of lake Argentina. there were all kinds of celebrations and fans and people everywhere. I was quite surprised to see how upscale some of the shops and restaurants were. it was very deceiving from what we had seen from the periphery.

we returned to the hotel and several of us stayed up drinking and talking and getting to know one another better. it's a pretty eclectic group with an assortment of motorcycle industry. world travelers, at least millionaires if not more, and people who are from around other parts of the globe. it is interesting to be moving between several languages and dealing with the accents and different ways of looking at things. quite what you come for on a trip like this.

The remaining four people on our trip arrived around 11:00 p.m. this evening and we stayed up to greet them. My brother-in-law Ash was one of them and I am glad he made it. although their journey was even harsher than the long trip, all of us experienced to get here as their flights had been canceled and they had to reschedule a day late. nonetheless, it was good to see everyone. tomorrow we must be out of here around 9:00 as we have more than 400 km to go to reach our next destination in Torrance del pine. 100 km of that is on gravel roads across the windy desert. we are told that it will be spectacularly beautiful and stunning along the way. it doesn't give much rest for those who just came in.

it was a good day, a nice start with a spectacular place to visit, and tomorrow we set off on the first real writing of this trip.

who's a little cool on the right out this morning but nice enough. we wrote about 80 km out to visit the Moreno Glacier on lake Argentina. it was pretty impressive to see up close. we took a boat ride that led right along the edge of it and we watched as huge chunks calved off and crashed into the water making big waves. we've stopped for lunch at the at the restaurant, and now we're going to do a little bit of walking around to get up closer to the glacier from the land side and see it better. The weather is mixed today. sometimes overcast rarely a little sun pops through and it's cool enough to stay bundled up.
