It's suggested to use this to clean the surface around the hole prior to buffing the surface. My hope is to find something equivalent at an auto parts store tomorrow.

See the video describing how to use these. These are off the wheel patch/plugs applied from the inside and should provide a more stable patch than the temporary from the outside kind.
Aside from a YouTube video I was unable to find good information on how to install these.
