It was a gorgeous fall day and it's been too long since I've ridden, so ...
Bruce and I are heading out for a two day ride in Virginia.
Bruce and I had a wonderful by the nose ride through Northern Maryland/
Due to a bug having to do with adding routes to a plan after the fact I'm adding a new trip to cover the second day.
This is my solo ride to join up with Wayne and Jackie at Fort Lewis Lodge, which has become a tradition for Jackie's birthday. Once out there, I'll switch over to the group adventure Fort Lewis 2024. This will be the first longish trip on the Blue Oil Burner since putting it back together. I've put it through its paces and all seems well, but I am still a bit apprehensive about potential mechanical failures. The plan is to divide what would normally be an easy day ride into two days in large part because those muscles around my shoulderblades continue to plague me by locking up. When this happens it's beyond painful. There is also a major rain system moving in, so this will be a very wet ride.
Shoulder and back muscles continue to plague me. The 319 mile ride took it out of me even despite many significant breaks.
I'm going to head to my buddy Ryan's house for dinner before heading home.
Ad-hoc solo trip
I just finished the job of installing the rebuilt final drive. It's time to see if it blows up.
It's going to be much colder tomorrow so we're trying to get out on the bikes for just a bit this afternoon.
The trip that started it all, now so long ago.
Bruce is coming into town and for the first time in five years, we'll be taking both street bikes out.
Ad-hoc solo trip
On July 29th, 2023, I bolted on the final pieces so now the Oil Burner is whole once again. The plan is simply to stay relatively local and put the bike through it's paces. It worked well on the four mile test loop but we did sync the throttle bodies and adjust the CO, so I don't know if we made some mistake there. So the idea is to be conservative and see how it does. If it does well maybe we'll head further afield.
We've gotten Duncan's K1300S back together. The front wheel is straightened and the wheel bearings have been replaced. We mounted new Pilot Road 5's on it. So the thought is to go for a little ride heading out into an area we have not explored to the North and East of Baltimore.
This is an abbreviated ad-hoc street ride just to get out on the bikes for a while before we have to go to Duncan's mom's birthday dinner. I'm not yet sure where we'll go.
I've decided to head up to the BMW RA Rally near Wellboro, PA to hopefully meet a number of people I've been corresponding with on Facebook for some time. Originally this was going to finally be the time I met Gary Weaver. :( Sadly, that can now never happen.
After too much twistiness, I'm craving some gawdawful superslab. Duncan wants to go ride the section of I95 that's about to get shut down once the I95 project is completed this fall. From there maybe a waterfall or two.
Heat advisories all over the place. We're going to head out looking for cooler climes to the South.
I got invited to a motorcycle dinner in Philadelphia with Lance Lau, Tom Cutter, and others. I met Lance at the New York International Motorcycle show and I haven't seen Tom in way too long. Instead of just heading up I95, I figure I'll take the long way and see if I can't make a more pleasant ride out of it. I plan to stop by Revzilla if I make it up there early enough. I need to get a new pair of ADV gloves.
The original plan was to ride the DR's up to Michaux but it's a bit chilly so we've opted to take the street bikes. The thought is to head down to Route 33 and then loop back up through Rough Run Road (an MTSweger suggestion). We haven't been on 33 in a few years.
