I really liked some of the forest roads on the last ride and thought to myself, "Ryan needs to see these." So we're heading out on a two and a half day ride along forest service roads. The plan is to leave Friday before close of business to get close to our target area and have all day Saturday and most of Sunday to go exploring.
Aaron is doing is Shenandoah Bicycle Ride and has invited me to join him when he stays in a cabin near Skyline Drive. I intend to take the DR and depending on how my shoulder is doing I may extend the trip by a few days and explore new-to-me gravel roads in Virginia and West Virginia. It'll all depend on well I'm doing. That first 89 miles on slab on my DR650 is not something I'm looking forward to.
I will have to attempt this again at some point.
Ryan asked to go riding. Duncan is joining us. The plan is to bundle up and head up to Michaux or maybe head out to the dirt roads around SugarLoaf mountain, or some combination.
Duncan wants to take Alli's DR200 out to run the old gas out of it since it also has not been run in over a year.
Duncan hasn't run his DR650 in far too long so the plan is to brave the heat for a short-ish DR ride. I'm not sure where to head. Maybe Southern Maryland. I'm not sure if we'll find any dirt, but heading to the water might be nice.
We haven't ridden together in ages. Ryan just his DR all put together and wants to go run some dirt.
I'm heading down to Waynesville to join Wayne of Waynesville on a mapping trip into the forest roads of Northern Georgia.
Bruce and I are planning to head out for an overnight ride. Where we go will largely depend on the weather since there are multiple systems moving through the area. Over the last two days on the DR650 my shoulders and neck are in pretty bad shape so we'll see how much I can do. It's highway miles that seem to hurt the most on the dual-sport.
Bruce, Duncan, and I are going to do another day ride, this time heading North to avoid the rains in this area and to the South.
Bruce is in town and we've been planning on a modest ride. But then we heard Ian was coincidentally also in town so the four of us, Duncan, Bruce, Ian, and I, are going to do a Southern Maryland Loop ride.
The weather is once again unseasonably warm so we're going to head out on another modest ride.
It's been since mid September that we've taken the DR's out. Today is a gorgeous fall day so we're thinking of heading up to Michaux to see what the fall colors up there look like. But first I have to get mine started, warmed up, and change the oil.
If all goes to plan, Duncan, Bruce, and I will go on a two and half day or so ride through some of the more northern roads I've explored in Virginia with America Rides Maps. This is a street ride. I promise! ;)
A group ride for Washington DC metropolitan area riders of BMW K1200S and K1300S and friends.
We're going to be guiding a few jeeps through th e gravel roads of Michaux State Forest in PA. We'll be meeting at the social center of Thurmont also known as the Sheetz off of 15 and 550, which is marked on the map. The Sheetz is at 428 North Church Street, Thurmont, Md 21788
