So I heard back from Motobins, the company that makes the clutch, and they say that it can take 1500 miles before the clutch really beds in. So what I'm seeing at the moment is normal and should resolve in the next 500 miles.
It's about 270 miles for me. That leaves a few hours in the day to play with if I get an early start. If the weather is bad I can just beat it up the Interstate in 5 hours or so. I hate the Interstate. Once I hit Virginia and refuel I'll be looking for an escape.
My thought is mid to late afternoon. It's about 250 miles from my location and I was thinking of taking some side roads on the way down instead of slabbing it.
The K100RS is probably not going to be making it on this trip. It's consuming oil and the thermostat is stuck open. The oil consumption might be due to the crank case vent tube being clogged.
So for the time being, I'm planning on taking the R1100S guest bike. It's got it's own issue as the new clutch I installed is slipping on hard acceleration. I've contacted the manufacturer of that clutch to see if maybe there's something I've missed. I don't think I have enough time to tear it apart and get it back together again before next week so I'll just end up having to ride it "as is".
