I added the change you suggested. If the ride is not yet started, no status options appear. You should now see "Ride Not Yet Started" in the upper right.

Per Audrey's suggestion, I changed the default on the bike add dialog to "owned". i.e. you have to check a box to say you sold it now.

I also changed the checkbox on the select bike dialog to "Ride this bike" which will hopefully be clearer.

I also tweaked the layout so it should now appear more solid on the phone.
