It should be noted that the diagram from the parts manual that came with the boat appears to be completely wrong. 

There is still a question as to whether the pin is press fit or screwed in somehow. 

Megan suggested trying the old farmers tractor trick of mixing acetone and automatic transmission fluid in equal parts. We had used this with great success back on The Overdrawn. 

There's an access panel above the keel that provides a view down into the cavity and where one can see the cable, pulley, and attachment point.
