Am going to be going on a ride this Sunday...maybe back to WV on 50 (it was a lot of fun), or 211/Fort Valley back and forth, or somewhere else...as long as the road isn't straight
buffalo mentioned maybe wanting to go. If we leave here at 8:30 we'd be able to meet you in Manassas around 9:30, traffic permitting. That would give us plenty of time to head out 50 a ways. It would be a long day but those roads, given they are mostly sweepers, would be of interest to Duncan.
Yermo and buffalo that sounds like an awesome plan. The second set of mountain turns after the 219 intersection is worth the trip alone, they were amazing. That's two epics mountain roads connected by wonderful sweeping road through trees and farm valleys. Very nice. I was able to round trip all the way to Grafton and still be home by 6pm (stopping for lunch and three times for gas), so it's not all that bad staying on 50.
The final 10-15 miles into Grafton are pretty bumpy but still great roads (with TWO seriously 15mph turns) It's also not as long a day as it seems, 50 from the WV border to Grafton and back actually goes by pretty quickly. There are two stretches, one just after 219, that would be worth spending time just going up and back a bunch of times
Route 50 From Winchester Virginia to Grafton West Virginia is a very nice road with scenic vistas, alternating sweepers and twisties. All in all a good days ride. The overlook (tagged with a marker) is especially nice.
