anyone who’s ridden down through the hot springs va area, greenbrier, homestead, etc, give this route a look and tell me what could be better. 8 guys, 3 are Adv riders. So route will need to be tame or the 3 will break off for a parallel dirt run.

Robermcm, I took the liberty of editing the post to include your maps right in the post. I hope you don't mind.

(My hope is to loop back and make embedding things in posts easier ... but in the mean time to embed a map when composing a post, you can click the little Map Icon button, that'll bring up the Embed Map popup, click search, in the search box enter the number of your map , click the search button, click embed, click close .... you can embed photos, videos, links, etc in the same way)

One thing I really want to add, but don't have built yet, is a way for others to mark up suggestions directly on your maps ... 

As for day 1, I was down in that area not that long ago with America.Rides.Maps. Most of the roads I'm familiar with are a bit East of your route, but your route looks like a great ride. When will you be doing this ride?

Just came back from a week in that area riding the Back of the Dragon Dragon's Claw, etc.  I wish the route was labelled with road names/numbers so I was sure which ones they are, but it looks like it might be some of the same roads which were extremely twisty and tight in many areas.  Mostly 2nd and 3rd gear corners with a few 1st gear on a Harley Road Glide. 

How does that fit in with a "tame" route?  

Tracks often obscure road names. What you can do is zoom way in and then in the upper right corner of the map there's the "Layers" icon. Click that an uncheck "Tracks". That'll hide the track so you can see the road name underneath it.

First weekend in September we’ll be on these routes. Probably camping this time. Day 2 has the two campgrounds we hope to be at marked. Let me know if you’re In the area!

Tame was my choice of words for no gnarly dirt. I’ve dragged that entire group down mountain sides, knowing they'll bitch at me that evening cause their bikes are filthy. If it was just me, I’d be doing parts of the mabdr. 

I've only done sections of the MABDR but I'm thinking of, sometime in the fall, doing the whole thing on my DR650SE. From what I've seen it's all pretty tame but should be a really nice relaxing ride. 

a DR650 is perfect for the Mabdr. There are a few challenge sections in ma7 (12 miles of rocky and sometimes rutty puddles, but not bad) and ma8 (2 miles of muddy hell) that make you want a lighter than GSA sized bike. But other than that, it’s a nice dirt cruise. 

Wytheville is only about 325 miles from me. I was down in that area mapping with America.Rides.Maps here just recently and the number of amazing roads in that area is just nuts. I've been meaning to go back down there again.

Your route is good. I've just mapped that area, working on the final map now. I might do it a little differently. Robinson Tract road stands out as quite a difference from the other roads you're looking at which are more tame in general. Are you looking to keep it consistent or kick it up? How adventurous is this group?

Thanks for looking.  I’d be interested in anything you saw that was curvy, dirt or tarmac, beautiful area, etc.

As a riding group, we’re a mix. One old submarine vet with a Harley trike, 3 Adv bike riders, 4 other street bikes. All capable riders and we’ve been on some dirt sections together. Anything paved is fair game, dirt connectors fine if gravel roads, the less highway like, the better. 

Ive looked at the southern section of 738 before. The NW section, coming over the mountain is fantastic! Peg scraping sharp corners on a beat up old road. My favorite kind of find. But the rest runs a bit more east than I wanted to go, given our four day trip target from Cleveland, Oh area. We like to keep our days under 280 miles. We find that about perfect for a relaxed pace, small, curvy roads, safe travels. But again, any must see roads I’d like to hear about!

It's too far East for this trip, but for a future one, I really like Smoke Hole Road:

There are some really good routes laid out.  Some are more challenging than others and believe that these are all paved roads.

yea, smoke hole road is the best. Stay right in the corners though, as locals use the WHOLE ROAD. Some dirt routes off of smoke hole that go to the west towards Seneca Rocks. Haven’t done them, but would love to on smaller bikes. 

zinc, how’s rt83 up to Hurley road north?

If I remember correctly, it's mostly sweepers through small towns. Not nearly as technical to ride as the Back of the Dragon. We spent more time on 460 and other routes.  Not a lot of bad roads in the area.
