This 43 mile section is the best of the 491 mile long ride. It's the highest, the most scenic and has more overlooks to enjoy it.

Wayne leads a motorcycle ride with Facebook friends out of Old Fort, North Carolina with a goal to show these experienced riders roads and sights they've not seen before. Heading south, he takes them on little known backroads through Lake Lure, Saluda, Rosman, with stops at roadside waterfalls along the way. The beautiful fall colors take them into South Carolina and ultimately to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
A useful and fun way to avoid the traffic in Dillsboro, Sylva, and Cullowhee. GPX download enabled.
Marion to Tazwell - The Back of the Dragon, a 29 mile long section of VA 16 runs north / south between the towns of Marion and Tazwell, Virginia. Climbing up and down the mountain ridges along the way it holds both sweeping curves in the valleys and tight and twisty sections carving through the rocky cuts in the high parts. There is little along the way, a few homes and farms. Most of it is wooded passing through Hungry Mother State Park at the south end. It is a useful road, one of the nicest ways to traverse this area, easy to work into your travel plans. Over the years it has been popularized and marketed as a motorcycle destination ride. The hub of this motorcycle related activity is at the north end in Tazwell where the Back of the Dragon Visitor Center opened a new facility in 2020. Several good rides connect to it and there is some great riding in the surrounding area.
This is the most common loop ride done with "The Rattler" - NC 209. It starts and ends at Junaluska covering about 100 miles. This is one of the best Blue Ridge Mountain riding experiences with mountain climbs, beautiful valleys, a nice mix of easy and challenging terrain, historic places and sights, lots of stops, and great scenery.
Six of the easy to access waterfalls surrounding Looking Glass Rock in the Pisgah National Forest.
There are two attractions on the Blue Ridge Parkway many travelers miss. Roanoke Mountain has a single lane paved one-way loop road that takes you to a couple nice overlooks. Mill Mountain is home to the Roanoke Star which shines down on the city each night.
This is a 137 mile loop ride based out of Bearwaters Brewery in Canton, NC. It runs north on some nice twisty paved roads, then enters the Pisgah National Forest on generally well maintained forest roads. It crosses into Tennessee, then loops back with sections that skirt Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
This is a nice 165 mile loop ride that will take you to a dozen roadside waterfalls in a day. I suggest you run it counter-clockwise as the section between Franklin and Highlands can get busy later in the day and you'll get the 4 lane riding out of the way early. You'll ride some very curvy roads, hit some nice scenery, and take in one section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bring the camera!
A classic ride out of Nantahala Gorge, Wayah Road climbs along the whitewater river up to Nathahala Lake, crusies along the top of the ridge, then plunges down the steep slopes to roll out across a valley. Loafer's Glory is a popular stop at the Franklin, NC end of the ride. There is a nice pulloff at the waterfalls on the climb up.
A superb ride to a great Overlook from the highest point in South Carolina. It sits on the state line.
Wayne takes you on a 21 Mile long Motorcycle Ride looping south from Cashiers, North Carolina with 4 amazing and beautiful stops. This is a great ride to do when you visit the Land of the Waterfalls.
US 276 and NC 215 are two of the finest motorcycle rides you’ll find. The Copperhead Loop ride links them using US 64 through Brevard. You'll enjoy wonderfully twisty roads, waterfalls, and intersect the Blue Ridge Parkway at two points.

A series of two lane backroads bypassing the highway and the town of Franklin, NC
This is a loop ride I did with a group of riders who were staying in Asheville, NC.
I will be attending the kickoff event of Colorado Motorcycle Adventures expansion to Phoenix, AZ April 1-4. We will depart from Phoenix on April 1 to spend the next 4 days riding paved and unpaved routes basing out of Bisbee. We have used Colorado Motorcycle Adventures on several of our past trips when riding in Colorado. I will be renting a BMW R1250 GS Adventure for the rides.
1000 mile loop from the beach to the mountains in South Carolina. Roughly 40% paved / 60% off pavement, I plan to do this moderately challenging route at a leisurely pace in order to thoroughly record, photograph, and film the experience and produce a well curated route for public use on Miles-by-Motorcycle. As I'll want both electricity and internet service at night, as well as time to manage all the data collected during the day, accommodations will be in hotels, preferably nice ones, with food and drink either on site or in walking distance to save time. The route will be done from north-to-south then beach to mountains. Start / End point will wither be Franklin, NC or Brevard.
Waynesville, NC to The Chalet Restaurant at the Switzerland Inn in Little Switzerland, NC. The Bulk of the ride is on the Blue Ridge Parkway passing through Asheville, NC. Included is a loop on The Diamondback.

Yermo Lamers and Wayne Busch will traverse the 1082 mile mixed route from bottom to top as the initial field test of the new Miles By Motorcycle platform. The goal is to test and tweak the software if needed, document the route as we go and share photos, video, and our experiences on social media, record the road characteristics marking paved / unpaved / easy / difficult sections, water crossings, and such, and have fun riding together.

Plan B - This is an alternative to our New England Ride Plan for 2020 which was not possible due to travel closures in several states. This trip will take us up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline Drive in stages then into north central Pennsylvania. Side trips into West Virginia are planned along the way. As it's towards the end of June when thunderstorms are common in the afternoons I've kept the daily mileage low.
